Blake Shepard is a trial attorney in Stinson Leonard Street LLP’s Business and Commercial Litigation practice division and member of its Product Liability practice. With nearly 30 years of litigation experience, Blake has represented Fortune 500 and privately held companies in a wide array of product liability, commercial and tort actions in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Blake has served as national, regional and Minnesota counsel for product manufacturers in individual, coordinated and class action product liability cases. His product liability experience includes representation of manufacturers in mass tort, wrongful death, catastrophic injury and commercial warranty cases; FDA and CPSC recall proceedings and post-recall litigation; workplace injury and construction accident cases; toxic exposure cases; and fraud, consumer protection and false advertising claims. Blake has successfully tried cases in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest and has obtained dismissals for clients through summary judgment and motions to dismiss in jurisdictions throughout the country. He has successfully argued cases in state and federal appellate courts and participated in the successful defense of a client in a case argued before the United States Supreme Court in 1997. Blake’s broader commercial litigation experience includes a wide range of engagements in Minnesota and around the country, including claims for breach of fiduciary duty; breach of contract and warranty cases; bankruptcy clawback actions; fraud, racketeering and consumer protection claims; state agency regulatory actions; and attorney general investigations. Consistent with the firm’s commitment to pro bono and community service, Blake has devoted significant time and resources to the representation of clients through the Deinard Legal Clinic in south Minneapolis. Blake has successfully represented numerous clients seeking Social Security disability benefits and served as supervising attorney for other firm attorneys handling eligibility claims through the Legal Clinic. In 2007, Blake received the Hennepin County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award for Excellence in the Private Sector for his work on behalf of disabled clients. Blake is former chair of the firm’s Product Liability practice and served for several years as co-chair of the firm’s Recruiting Committee. Before joining the firm, Blake served as special assistant to the Minnesota attorney general.
