Dan Scott is a trial lawyer, counselor and civic leader who is recognized as one of the top business litigation attorneys in the United States. He loves the courtroom, and brings two decades of diverse experience to bear in protecting the products, practices and competitive interests of clients. His work the past five years has increasingly focused upon high-exposure disputes, including business torts; unfair competition; trade secret litigation; emergency injunctive relief; non-compete and restrictive covenant litigation; shareholder and ownership disputes; mass and toxic torts; class actions; employment litigation; government investigations; worksite injuries and deaths; eminent domain litigation; and contract disputes. This year alone, Dan’s work experience includes:
As counselor, Dan listens to and guides business owners, chief executives, entrepreneurs, general counsels, directors, elected officials, judges and other decision-makers. Oftentimes, his counsel occurs off-the-clock and in sensitive circumstances, resulting in reduced risk exposure and – where and when possible – early, practical and cost-effective resolutions. He also devotes significant time and resources to pro bono clients, and mentoring under- represented people in business and legal communities.
As citizen, Dan is routinely engaged by civic organizations for insight, direction and results. Currently, he serves on the boards of one of the most respected Catholic liberal arts women’s colleges in America; a National Hockey League team’s charitable foundation supporting families in the State of Hockey; and a leading Twin Cities business lobby. He has also served on the boards of a privately-held company advancing the distributed production of green jet and diesel fuel; a non-profit focused on growing Saint Paul’s urban core; and a political action committee promoting the election of pro-business officials.
For his courtroom and community work, Dan is recognized by peers and various media entities, including The Best Lawyers in America® for commercial litigation (2013–14); Super Lawyer® by Minnesota Law & Politics (2005–14); Top Business Litigation Attorney by Super Lawyers® Business Edition (2011–2013) and Corporate Counsel Edition© (2009–10); Comcast Newsmaker by CNN Headline News (2009); Celebrating Business Success honoree by Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce (2006); and Super Lawyer®-Rising Star by Minnesota Law & Politics (2004).
