Greg Fontaine is an environmental lawyer whose practice is focused on mining and minerals, waste management, and other heavy industries and agribusiness. Greg has represented clients ranging from Fortune 50 businesses to individuals during his three-decade career. He regularly advises clients in a wide range of project-development, land-use, environmental review, permitting, and regulatory compliance/enforcement matters, in the context of commercial ventures, regulatory settings, and contested proceedings. He has tried cases in federal and state courts and in administrative actions, and has appeared before federal and state appellate courts and in bankruptcy cases. He also has negotiated settlement agreements, consent orders and development agreements with federal and state regulatory agencies in numerous enforcement actions, judicial and administrative proceedings, and regulatory and commercial matters. Before joining Stinson Leonard Street, Greg served as General Counsel and later Chief Executive Officer for a group of agribusiness companies. He spent his first 18 years in private practice at one of Minnesota’s largest law firms, where he was one of the founders of their environmental law group in the mid-1980s and helped grow it into one of the largest environmental and regulatory practices in the Midwest.
