Steve Litman focuses his practice in the areas of tax, estate and business planning, and probate and trust administration. He has also been very active in the management of Leonard, Street and Deinard (pre merger) during his 40+ year career with the firm. In that regard, Steve served on the firm’s Board of Directors, Compensation Committee and Finance Committee for many years, and is also a former chair of its Tax, Estate Planning and Probate practice group. In his practice, Steve largely works with high net worth individuals and closely held family businesses. Steve represents these clients to assist them in the transfer of wealth on a tax efficient basis, succession planning, buy-sell planning, insurance planning, and all forms of general business and tax counseling. In all of these areas, the primary focus is to identify each client’s tax planning and family goals and concerns, and then assist to implement tax and/or business plans to meet these specific needs. Steve has taught the advanced estate planning course at the University of Minnesota School of Law, as an adjunct professor; and has lectured at many national and local law institutes, including The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel; Southern California Tax and Estate Planning Forum; Minnesota Continuing Legal Education; and the Hennepin County Bar Association. Steve is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and an active member of its Business Planning Committee (and Insurance Sub Committee), which deal with tax and planning issues that impact family business. Steve has also worked extensively in the government relations area as a member of the Board of Advisors of the S Corporation Association, which is the national industry group in Washington D.C. that represents the interests of some 4.5 million S Corporations in tax areas.
