Todd M. Phelps Discusses Expanding His Real Estate Practice & More in Minnesota Lawyer Spotlight

Partner Todd M. Phelps was recently featured in Minnesota Lawyer's Breaking the Ice series.  Phelps discussed his commercial real estate practice and expansion to serve high-net-worth families and private businesses in southwest Florida. Phelps also detailed his personal journey to a career in law and hobbies he enjoys in his free time. When asked about misconceptions people have about working as an attorney, he explained how no two transactions can be treated the same.

"[People think] that real estate and finance are 'forms-based' practices where we fill in the blanks, like Mad Libs. Every client, every transaction, every situation is different. It’s really a thinking and analytical problem-solving practice."

Recently named to the Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame, Phelps helps clients acquire, develop, construct, finance, lease and sell commercial real estate, including office, retail, industrial, assisted living facilities, agribusiness, hospitality and resorts, religious, mixed-use and multifamily properties. In addition, he represents private and family businesses, assisting as an outside general counsel with complex and day-to-day matters including ownership agreements, financing transactions, contract negotiations, dispute resolution, regulatory matters and corporate transactions.
