Reyes Explores Pay Transparency Law, Impact for Employers in Minnesota Lawyer

03.04.2025

Stinson LLP Partner Greta Bauer Reyes is featured in a Minnesota Lawyer article exploring how employers are adapting to the state's new pay transparency law. In "More job postings must include pay," Reyes, along with local labor and employment attorneys, examines the law's impact on hiring practices and how businesses are ensuring compliance.

The pay transparency law, which took effect in January 2025, mandates that employers with 30 or more employees must include salary ranges and benefits in all job postings. The new law aims to provide job seekers with clearer expectations and to encourage companies to evaluate their pay structures. Reyes notes that employers have been preparing by reviewing compensation policies, and updating hiring practices and procedures.

"Employers can get good value from doing an internal self-audit of the salaries they're paying for certain positions," Reyes said. "It can be enlightening to see the range of salaries for what might appear to be the same position."

Reyes says that publicly posting salary ranges can raise questions among current employees, which may call for businesses to justify pay differences between new hires and existing staff. She also states that the new law will ideally help both jobseekers and employers during the recruitment process, as the stress of salary negotiations will be mitigated for both, and can also streamline where job openings are posted.

Reyes is an experienced labor and employment attorney, partnering with employers in policy, training and human resources decisions, as well as defense in litigated matters. Her background in highly-regulated industries provides a unique perspective for representing clients in OSHA investigations, whistleblower and retaliation complaints, and related litigation.
