Overview

Shelby's practice encompasses all stages of litigation, from investigation and counseling, to settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolutions, and all the way through every level of appeal. She concentrates her practice in the area of employment litigation, representing clients in state and federal court, as well as before administrative agencies.

In addition to her litigation practice, Shelby regularly advises employers on all areas of employment law compliance and human resources practices, including hiring and firing, employment agreements, employment leaves, disability issues, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour compliance.

Shelby is consistently active in pro bono efforts and maintains her pro bono practice with work on immigration, education, and social justice matters.

Prior to joining Stinson, Shelby was an associate at a New York-based global firm.

Experience

Shelby's experience is diverse, and includes representing clients in matters regarding contract disputes, consumer product claims, and employment law.

Among her notable experience, Shelby was the lead associate briefing issues before the D.C. District Court and the D.C. Circuit Court in a Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act case which was ultimately argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, resulting in a unanimous opinion in favor of her client.

She also assisted a consumer products company in a high-stakes multi-district litigation in connection with allegations that its artificial turf sports fields deteriorated prior to their advertised life-span, resulting in the denial of class certification.

Pro Bono

Shelby successfully secured asylum for a client under the Violence Against Women Act.

She has also been successful in multiple claims against the New York State Department of Education, securing private school tuition reimbursement for students with special needs.
