Allison Murdock Talks Leading During Constant Uncertainty in Kansas City Business Journal Feature

Stinson Managing Partner Allison Murdock was recently featured in the Kansas City Business Journal's "5 Questions With…" series. Murdock detailed a handful of topics that are top of mind such as returning to the office, competition, handling uncertainty, hot areas of business and employee well-being.

Murdock discussed how the past 11 years as Stinson's deputy managing partner prepared her for role of leading the firm. The uncertainty experienced on so many fronts during the pandemic has underscored the importance of preparation, flexibility and communication.

“One of the things we do best is to be very transparent with what our plans are. We share what things look like now and our plans for the future. We also keep our fingers on the pulse of everything happening at the firm and deal with things that come up on a day-to-day basis. We still plan, knowing that sometimes things aren’t a straight line to where we want to be. We might have to steer off the path for a while, until we can get back on the path to move forward.”

While the firm has continuously strived to cultivate well-being, Murdock described how the pandemic's unique challenges have made our focus on well-being more important than ever.

“Well-being became really important during Covid as people struggled with suddenly being home. Some parents suddenly had to teach their children at home. Other folks were experiencing isolation. Then there is just the uncertainty of all of last year."

Murdock also detailed how Krista Larson, Stinson's new director of well-being, plays an instrumental role in helping lead the firm towards the fulfillment of our well-being pledge to the American Bar Association.

Murdock serves as the managing partner of the firm with ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the firm's operations and performance including development and implementation of the firm's strategic initiatives. Her focus is on leading and growing a client-focused and community-engaged firm. In addition to serving as the firm's managing partner, Murdock is a member of its executive committee and board of directors.
