Stinson Attorneys Named Pro Bono Champions by KCMBA

Press Release
02.20.2025

Stinson LLP Partner Sean Colligan and attorney Austin Tapuro are recognized by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association as Pro Bono Champions for their swift legal work in securing guardianship for two minors who had recently been orphaned.

Following the sudden passing of both parents, the children's grandmother sought legal assistance to secure their stability. Tapuro, with guidance from Colligan, navigated the guardianship and conservatorship processes, ensuring the children could remain in her care.

"It takes unbelievable strength to step up for children in crisis and to become a pillar of strength for a family in need of guidance after a tremendous loss. Through our judicial process these attorneys made a lasting difference in the lives of this family," the Honorable Sarah A. Castle said. Castle nominated the attorneys as Pro Bono Champions.

Colligan has over three decades of experience handling complex commercial disputes, securities litigation and regulatory investigations. He defends directors, officers, financial institutions and public companies and their governing boards in derivative lawsuits and advises them on fiduciary duties.

Tapuro assists employers in navigating traditional labor law in both unionized and non-unionized environments. He handles contract disputes, disciplinary matters and compliance with the National Labor Relations Act. Tapuro's practice also extends to employment matters, such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation and workplace policies.
